True Faces of Dey Krahorm

Since 2005, the area of Dey Krahorm in Phnom Penh Cambodia has resisted violence and intimidation in order to keep from being forcibly evicted by the 7NG company.
Forced eviction is one of the most widespread and systematic human rights violations occurring in Cambodia today. Despite legal protections, at least 30,000 residents of the capital city Phnom Penh have been forcibly evicted, and approximately 150,000 Cambodians throughout the country are at risk of forced eviction.

We learned to be efficient observers through attendance at various events including trials, demonstrations, political rallies, municipal elections, International Human Rights Day, International Labour Day and through the example of experienced LICADHO monitors and personnel.

Networking – connect people and Communities to organizations/groups with the aim of capacity building, providing resources, and empowerment.

Saudi Arabia: Activists Face Blowback from Hunger Strike

We just received an email update from Saudi activists that Saudi authorities have "intensified campaigns aimed at suppressing freedom of expressions, blocking media outlets, and stymieing civil movements" since the November 6-7 hunger strike.

On Tuesday, December 16, 2008, ACS and the PEN American Center will host a panel featuring writers and lawyers discussing their work and its relationship to combating torture. This evening of law and literature examines the roles that lawyers and writers have played, and continue to play, in exposing human rights abuses and in reminding nations of their human rights responsibilities. As lawyers have fought for legal rights to be enforced, writers have awakened the consciences of nations, reminding citizens of the values that undergird rights.

Schoolgirls attacked with acid in Afghanistan

A group of girls determined to receive an education have been scarred for life in southern Afghanistan.

They were walking to school in Kandahar when battery acid was thrown into their faces by two men. Three of the girls are now in hospital with serious burns.
