Shiites Beheaded in Northern Pakistan

Islamabad - At least 11 Shiite Muslims were executed by a rival Sunni group in Pakistan's Kurram agency, a volatile north-western tribal district, a tribal leader said Monday.
The beheaded bodies of eight people from the Shiite tribe Toori were found dumped in Arawali and three in the Sadda area of the district, tribal chief Ali Akbar told the Geo news television channel.
However, Kurram's administrator, Azam Khan, confirmed only eight deaths. 'According to our information, eight bodies have been found so far,' he told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.
All those killed were abducted Friday when a food convoy they were travelling with came under attack in the Sunni-dominated area of Pir Qayyum, about 30 kilometres south-east of Kurram's central town of Parachinar.
Four people, including a security guard, were killed in the ambush. Later, government forces, backed by helicopter gunships, chased the attackers, killing five of them.
Kurram has been in the grip of sectarian violence since last year. Scores of people have been killed, and hundreds of families have fled the violence to an area bordering Afghanistan.

No justice for Sean Bell

Friday, April 25, 2008, 9:20am:
Justice denied -- all 3 police officers acquited of all charges. 50 shots fired at 3 unarmed, peaceful men -- and Sean killed on his wedding day -- and not even a reckless endangerment charge for one cop. Justice is not colorblind in Queens. To be continued.

US Soldier Kills Injured Unarmed Iraqi in a Mosque Nov. 2004

BAGHDAD, Iraq, Nov. 16, 2004

(CBS/AP) The fatal shooting of a wounded and apparently unarmed man in a Fallujah mosque by a U.S. Marine angered Sunni Muslims in Iraq on Tuesday and raised questions about the protection of enemy fighters once they are out of action.

The U.S. Military is investigating the shooting, which was captured on video. A spokesman at Marine Corps headquarters in the gave no further details, other than to confirm the incident happened on Saturday and that the Marines involved were part of the 1st Marine Division.

International legal experts said the Marine might have acted in self-defense because of a danger that a wounded enemy may try to blow up a hidden weapon; a key issue was whether the injured man was a prisoner at the time.

The shooting happened one day after the Marine, who has not been identified, was wounded in the face and after another man in his unit was killed by the booby-trapped body of an insurgent.

More here

Interview with Guard at Abu Ghraib

Get this on tape, man! Hey, tell -- say it again. Say again what happened.

Say what?

You know, like what was going on. What you - what was like being a guard there.

A guard at Abu Ghraib?

Yeah. The place, man! It's fucking world famous now.

I don't know what to say. Nothing special. It's better than being a fucking bullet sponge.

You know any of those guys who got busted, you know, for torturing those inmates?

Fuck man. You know, just cuz someone let the pictures get out.

Yeah, why'd they let that...?

No one expected -- I mean, compared to what we _were_ doing every day? Teasing a couple hajjis? Gimme a fucking break. You know, what's the big deal about making a haji walk around like a dog and bark?

(Laughter)

-- BREAK IN FOOTAGE --

... expected anyone... ehh... get all upset.

What else would you guys do?

Hmmm... what wouldn't we do?

(Laughter)

Where we'd take the plastic and wrap it around their heads until they started choking?

-- BREAK IN FOOTAGE --

You know, the CIA showed us a lot of shit, man. Crank generator... when we'd hook it up -- hooked it up to their nipples or their nuts--

Oooh! Ouch!

Where we'd shock the shit out of them.

The most -- what was the most fun things?

The most fun thing... um. Definitely the women.

Yeah? They had chick insurgents man?

No, they didn't have chick insurgents. Something goes down they just grab everyone around, you know, and fuck 'em.

Wow.

You know, I mean, you going to have 35 trials? No, you know? People are like, "Oh, they're innocent." And you know what, I don't give a _fuck_. As far as I'm concerned, they're all guilty. You know what? They should have kicked Saddam out themselves. Instead, we're there doing the fucking job. You know? We're losing guys. Were those people in the World Trade Center guilty? No. Fuck them --

They didn't fucking do anything.

They fucked us, now we're fucking them. Fuck them, dude. Anyone with a fucking rag on their head is fair game.

-- BREAK IN FOOTAGE --
Girl... she was probably like 15 years old.

Oh yeah?

Oh. Yeah. She was hot, dude. The body on that girl... really tight.

Make just -- they always wear like you can't see 'em, right cuz they're...

The girl hadn't been touched yet, she was fucking prime.

Oh.

[This guy] he started pimping out her out for 50 bucks a shot. I think at the end of the day, you know, he made like 500 bucks before she hung herself.

Really?

Yeah.

She hung herself? How come she hung herself?

I don't know, she wasn't happy. (Laughter) It's really shunned upon if you get raped, you know? I guess she would have been stoned to death anyways by her people.

Hmm.

It's fucked up.

Well, she was fucked anyway I guess. (Laughter) In more ways than one! (Laughter)

You didn't get shit from the CO, did you?

Not until those pictures came out, you know. Then the biggest rule was, "No fucking cameras."

(Laughter)

-- CAMERA OFF --

Poverty in Bahrain

Documentary about poverty in Bahrain, produced by the Bahrain Center for Human Rights, 2004. In Arabic with English subtitles

http://www.bahrainrights.org

Jul 7, 2007, 0:47 GMT

Manama, Bahrain - Loaves of bread and household items were held up in the air as Bahrainis on Friday protested against inflation and poverty.

Protesters called on the government to raise the standard of living and not withdraw subsidization of basic goods.

'The aim is to bring attention to the sky rocketing of prices at a time when wages remain low,' Mohammed al-Singace, head of the newly established Public Committee to Improve Standards of Living, told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.

With oil prices reaching one-year highs on Friday, al-Singace said revenues from oil sales should be directed toward increasing wages and raising the living standards of citizens.

'Bahrain was the first Gulf state where oil was discovered - where did all the revenues from those sales go?' al-Singace said.

His comments came amid a leaked government proposal to withdraw its subsidization of fuel, increasing oil prices further.

'The government should address the needs of the people and pay attention to their deteriorating standard of living, particularly as consumer goods prices continue to rise,' al Singace said.

Bahrain inflation rate according to 2006 estimates stood at 3.5 per cent, up from 2.7 per cent the previous year.

Many of the people taking part in the protest said they were holding minimum wage jobs that pay no more than 150 Bahraini Dinars (400 dollars), which according to them is barely enough to make ends meet.

'I work a day job and in the afternoon, I wash cars in a local mall and I barely make enough to help feed my family,' one of the protests said.

Shortly following the sit-in, clashes erupted between protesters and Bahraini police in the Shiite village of Daih on the outskirts of Manama.

Protesters burned tyres and waste, blocking the main highway in the area and hurling Molotov cocktails at police units that attempted to disperse them.

There were no reports of injuries or arrests as a result of the clashes, which lasted about two hours.

Illegal Naturalization in Bahrain

Documentary produced by four opposition political societies in Bahrain about illegal political naturalization by the government. Consists all of interviews with several Saudi Arabian citizens (from the Al-Dawaser tribe) who illegally received Bahraini nationality. Produced in June 2002.

The government of Bahrain has been naturalizing tens of thousands of non-Bahrainis in the past few years to change the demographic make-up of the country, to prevent opposition groups from succeeding in parliamentary elections.
