In 2008, children experiencing the impact of climate change in poor areas in Nepal came together to tell the story about how climate change is affecting their lives. Through making participatory videos, the children explored how they and their families are being affected, what they are doing to cope and what they would need to protect their homes, schools and livelihoods. This film brings children’s voices to the climate change debate and conveys powerful messages to policy makers shaping the global response to climate change. It was supported by ActionAid Nepal and Children in a Changing Climate.

Dirty business

British company Vedanta Resources Plc, are planning to start mining for bauxite (aluminum) in the pristine Niyamgiri Hills mountains of Orissa, India, ancestral home of thousands of India’s most vulnerable indigenous people..
For generations the Kondh tribal people have lived in small groups across the mountain, depending upon it for their food, culture and medicines. They also worship Niyamgiri as their living god.
Official reports suggest that the mine will lead to massive deforestation, threaten key water sources and destroy local ecosystems, home to endangered animals such as the tiger, leopard and elephant.
The Kondh tribal people have made it clear that they do not want the the mine to go ahead and that financial compensation will not make up for the potential loss of their way of life.
If mining is permitted here then two of India’s strongest Constitutional guarantees will be breached.
There are other places to mine bauxite in India that would not have the same impact.
It is not too late to stop the mine.
Please take action today. Stand alongside the Kondh and demand an immediate cancellation of plans to start mining.
