The mission of the WITNESS Media Archive is to collect, document and preserve audiovisual human rights documentation for posterity; to support the ongoing work of WITNESS partners; and to provide access to a broader community of advocates, researchers, filmmakers, and journalists, now and in the future. We believe that archives can and should play an important role in the support of human rights advocacy, prosecution of justice, and the preservation and access of important historical narratives.
The video collection comprises over 3000 hours of video from human rights defenders around the world. Footage includes witnes and victim testimonies, abuses caught on tape, interviews with key human rights defenders, evidentiary submissions, and footage of cultural events and daily life.
