My grandmother’s life intersected squarely with the unprecedented rise in life expectancy for all elders.  This rise has also led to one of our greatest silent crises: elder abuse.

Every year, roughly 5 million older Americans are beaten, neglected or financially exploited, causing illness, suffering, and premature death. Elder abuse is a silent crisis that cuts across gender, social, racial, ethnic, economic and geographic lines - and yet only an estimated 1 in 5 cases are reported.

Borei Keila: Urgent Action Needed - Eviction Set for Monday

Last month we told you about a community in Borei Keila, a group of 47 families living in green sheds and fighting for their lives and homes amidst a threat of imminent forced eviction in central Phnom Penh. Thirty-two of these families are affected by HIV/AIDS and depend on nearby health centers to receive life-saving medication.

The Borei Keila community received word that the forced eviction will happen on Monday 15 June.

WITNESS Begins New Partnership with Bay Area Video Coalition

From May 29 - June 7, I attended the Bay Area Video Coalition (BAVC), Producers Institute for New Media Technologies in San Francisco, California. BAVC is a nonprofit media arts center founded in 1976 by a coalition of media makers and activists who wanted to find alternative, civic-minded applications for a new technology - PortaPak video.
