The course will be taught in Arabic and will take a practical approach to issues of migrants and forced displacement by exploring strategies to ensure migrants' and IDPs' development and possible integration in their host countries. The course will apply a framework of international human rights and humanitarian standards as tools for improving the lives and living conditions of all categories of displaced persons.

The senior tutor will be Joseph Schechla; Cairo based coordinator of the Housing and Land Rights Network (HLRN) of the Habitat International Coalition. Invited instructors include: Professor Leonardo de Franco, Dr. Amin Mekki Medani, Dr. Ibrahim Ayad; Hossam Bahgat; Director of the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights, Dr. Lana Baydas; Lecturer, Department of Law (AUC), and Parastou Hassouri; legal adviser at AMERAEgypt (African and Middle Eastern Refugee Assistance).

Location: Cairo, Egypt

Participants: participants from the Middle East and North Africa; lawyers, policy makers, government officials, representatives of NGOs and interested academics

Tuition, fee, lodging: The course will be limited in size and travel bursaries will be awarded to 25 agencies attending from outside Egypt. Participants will be responsible for their own hotel costs and evening meals. A list of modestly priced hotels will be provided.
