The All Women's Action Society (AWAM) is an independent non-profit organisation that is involved specifically in areas concerning women's rights and countering violence against women.
AWAM began in 1985 after a number of women's organisations came together to launch a joint campaign geared towards eliminating violence against women.
These organisations then decided to form AWAM as an umbrella organisation aimed at securing women's rights and improving the lives of women in Malaysia. AWAM has since tasked itself with fighting discrimination against women in all fields while promoting gender equality.
In this first episode of our 'NGO Focus' series, Malaysiakini talks to AWAM on their commitment towards improving the lives and championing the rights of women in Malaysia.
