The morning of Kiran Yadav’s death was like any other. The young mother of two rose early in her rural Indian village. She made tea and breakfast for her family. When her labor pains began, her family took her on a moped to a nearby clinic. Photographer Susan Meiselas and reporter Dumeetha Luthra traveled to India for Human Rights Watch to retrace the steps of one woman who died after giving birth.
