In an effort to raise awareness on the harsh realities of the world water crisis, the Knight Center for International Media at the School of Communication, University of Miami, is hosting a video competition with ITVS International to motivate the public to speak out about water issues around the world. In the 1H2O.org “One Take” Video Competition, contestants are asked to record a video monologue answering the question: Is access to clean drinking water a basic human right? Why or why not? The video monologues should be less than two minutes and must be recorded in “one take,” meaning no cuts or edits. A prize of $500 USD will be awarded to the contestant with the most impressive entry. Other cash prizes include $300 USD for the contestant who translates their video into the most languages using the “dotSUB” translating system accessible through the “One Take” webpage. All standard video formats are acceptable, including recordings from webcams and cell phone cameras. Entries are due by August 15, 2009. More information and official rules are available at http://www.1H2O.org/contests/onetake.
