“Does a bullet know Christian from Muslim?”

That is the question an intrepid and courageous collective of Christian and Muslim women in Liberia asked when they joined forces to undertake everything from staging silent protests outside the Presidential Palace to physically forcing a resolution during stalled negotiations. Demonstrating the extraordinary potential of otherwise ordinary women, their actions culminated in the exile of Charles Taylor and the election of Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Africa's first female head of state. These events underscored the power of a new wave of women overcoming religious differences, taking control of their political destiny around the world. Their work provides a fascinating example of the strength of interfaith activism.

The critical role that such grassroots women’s activism played in Liberia’s struggle for peace is the subject of Abigail Disney and Gini Reticker’s new film, “Pray the Devil Back to Hell.”

A story of sacrifice, unity and transcendence, “Pray the Devil Back to Hell” provides a rallying cry to replicate the remarkable achievements of this diverse group of women and apply their lessons of strength, patience, sacrifice and perseverance to bring peace to communities around the world.
