Fernando Ochoa Pineda is at the forefront of the fight for clean water in the Gulf of California. Fernando's efforts for clean water have not discriminated between consideration for the environment and human rights. His organization, Defensa Ambiental del Noroeste, has collaborated with the NGO Pronatura Noroeste
on an ambitious land conservation project. The project targets land masses surrounding the aquatic habitats to such species as grey whales, thus ensuring water purity for their habitats. In addition, Fernando has fought to protect local communities from water contamination caused by nearby resorts.
