Apr. 5 - As the Olympic flame goes to Russia, the International Olympic Committee defends the choice of China as host.

A recent Amnesty International report said awarding the 2008 Games to China has made human rights worse. French president Nicolas Sarkozy has said he will not attend the games' opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics unless China opens talks with the exiled Tibetan leader, the Dalai Lama and there have been suggestions in some quarters of a boycott of the games.

Apr. 7 (Reuters) - Scaling the soaring cables of San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge, three pro-Tibet protesters hoisted their banners.

San Francisco - home to a large Asian population - is the only U.S. city to host the Olympic torch this year.

Oleg Orlov, chair of the Human Rights Center "Memorial", was abducted together with three REN TV journalists in Ingushetia on Nov 23 2007. In this video, Orlov, recounts his abduction from the "Assa" Hotel in Nazran, Ingushetia, by a group of around 15 armed servicemen in masks. The camera follows Orlov to the field near the village of Nesterovskaya in the Sunzha district where he was beaten, threatened with execution, and disposed of.
