CMC Global Day of Action on Cluster Munitions.

Cluster munitions kill and injure civilians at the time of use because they indiscriminately scatter explosives over such a wide area and many of the bomblets or submunitions fail to explode on impact killing and injuring civilians long after conflict.
The CMC is supporting a new international process to conclude a new treaty that will prohibit these unacceptable weapons and assist individuals and communities in need. This page contains information and resources to help you get involved in the process, including the CMC's principles that set out the basic standards for the treaty.

International Labour Standards Reporting: child labour conventions (C.138 and C.182)

his course is intended for officers from relevant ministries, in charge of actions to eliminate child labour, in particular, from the Ministry of Labour but also from Ministries of Education, Social Affairs and Justice and from other government institutions involved in policies, programmes and projects where child labour concerns are included. Officers from labour inspection, occupational safety and health units and from relevant security forces units. Representatives of workers and employers’ organizations involved in child labour elimination actions. Representatives of public policy makers, policy planers and advisers; particularly members of national steering committees and those involved in national development planning process and frameworks gearing at the elimination of child labour. Relevant technical staff from development organisations and NGOs, including implementing agencies of the ILO-IPEC programme.

Tuition, fee, lodging: Tuition is US$ 1,875; estimated subsistence costs (accommodation, meals) are: US$ 1,098.

5th Annual Winter Course on Forced Migration

The Winter Course on Forced Migration is an outcome of the ongoing and past work by the CRG, and other collaborating groups, institutions, scholars, and human rights and humanitarian activists in the field of refugee studies and the broad studies on displacement, human rights and humanitarian work for the victims of forced displacement. Policy analysis of laws and administrative measures in this field also inform the course. The duration of the course is three months. A two and a half month long distance education programme precedes the fifteen-day Kolkata workshop.

Tuition, fee, lodging: Selected candidates from South Asia will have to pay INR 5000 each as registration fee (from outside South Asia the fee is US $ 400). CRG will bear accommodation and other course expenses for all participants. Applications forms need to be submitted by 31 May 2007.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations celebrates World Food Day each year on 16 October, the day on which the Organization was founded in 1945. The World Food Day and TeleFood theme for 2007 is "The Right to Food".

The right to food is the inherent human right of every woman, man, girl and boy, wherever they live on this planet.

The choice of The Right to Food as the theme for 2007 World Food Day and TeleFood demonstrates increasing recognition by the international community of the important role of human rights in eradicating hunger and poverty, and hastening and deepening the sustainable development process.
