Kids for Bhopal Walkathon New York

In May 2009, Kids for a Better Future organized a walkathon in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. This was in solidarity with Kids Against DOW-Carbide. Kids for Better Future is a child-run organization run by Akash Visvanath Mehta that organizes and fundraises for various child-related issues all over the world. Children Against Dow-Carbide is an organisation of the children born to the survivors of the 1984 Bhopal Gas Disaster and the victims of the water poisoned due to the waste abandoned at the Union Carbide factory site in Bhopal, India.

Bhopali Protestors Released from Jail; Fight Continues On

On June 09, 2008 Bhopali men, women and children were arrested after a peaceful protest outside the PM's office. Activists outside relentlessly bought for bail that was repeatedly denied. After nearly two weeks in lock-up, having been abused by the police and regularly beaten for demanding just their rights, they were finally given bail. This video captures some of the celebrations on release, as they are brought back to the welcoming arms of friends and families. Now begins even more struggle, for rights that still haven't been given and for justice that continues to be denied.

Here she tells the story of the last three months in a 23 year long struggle. She tells of police mistreatment, actions to get the PM's attention and the continuing hunger strike to get justice.

Many Bhopali men, women and children were arrested after a peaceful protest outside the PM's office on June 9, 2008. In this video, some of the released children recount stories of the police brutalities they witnessed and suffered. These children are part of the International Campaign for Justice in Bhopal, protesting on behalf of the thousands affected by the Bhopal Gas tragedy, against the continued government and corporate negligence (DOW chemicals) following the disaster.
