Human Rights Awareness Tour

The Human Rights Awareness Tour or “HRAT” is a group of traveling student organizers, non-governmental organizations, speakers, filmmakers, bands, photographers, journalists, artists, poets, models, and performers who have united in an effort to promote Human Rights, Environmental Sustainability, and Fair Trade practices. The tour group has dedicated itself to positive activism which means that it seeks to promote those who are doing positive things in society as opposed to condemning those who are doing wrong. The Human Rights Awareness Tour will be stopping at universities, high schools, grade schools, music festivals, and fairs across the country to organize fun, exciting, and educational series of events to create a positive environment for students and others to learn about the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, current Human Rights violations around the globe, the organizations that are playing key roles in defending Human Rights, and how to get involved in the Human Rights movement.

By producing fun and exciting events the HRAT represents a unique door for bringing human rights issues and socially aware ideas into the consciousness of the youth. The HRAT began as a nationwide tour starting in March 2008 with the sole purpose of producing events to educate about and promote the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). Events include: educational films or documentaries, professional human rights speakers, an art and photography exhibit featuring live art, a Fair Trade Coffee Night, featuring fair trade products in addition to free coffee, acoustic music, and poetry readings, a No Sweat Fashion Show, featuring sweatshop free and organic clothing, and a Human Rights Awareness Festival, featuring bands, motivational speakers, cultural performances, and socially conscious NGO booths.
