I'm an Egyptian woman, who has suddenly become interested in violations of human rights in my country. This followed a crackdown by security forces on protesters in different cities and towns in Egypt on April 6th, 2008. What mainly happened in Mahalla, a industrial town was heartrending where killings, arrests and vandalism took place by the police. Detainees are left in prisons for unlimited periods... taken to places where no one knows anything about them. All this is in accordance with an emergency law that has been ruling Egypt for almost 50 years.
Textile Egyptian workers have been carrying out number of strikes in the past two years, demanding better wages and improvement of working conditions.
