The Central American nation of El Salvador is the most densely populated country in the Americas. With the collapse of international coffee prices, the economic situation has worsened in some rural areas, with particular pressures on young people. ADS, our Member Association in El Salvador, is the largest sexual and reproductive health non-governmental organization in El Salvador, providing over 430,000 services in 2008. This video highlights their work with a particular focus on serving youth, rural populations and those underserved by the public sector.

As a service provider committed to guaranteeing sexual and reproductive rights, a significant component of IPPF’s work focuses on ensuring that all people have access to health services and information of the highest quality. Latin America and the Caribbean is frequently characterized by the highest levels of social inequality in the world. Poor, rural, and indigenous people lack access to the most basic needs, in particular reproductive health services. By providing health services to the most vulnerable populations, including women, IPPF helps to improve community wellbeing and contribute to poverty reduction in the region. The International Planned Parenthood Federation/Western Hemisphere Region (IPPF/WHR) is one of six Regional Offices of the International Planned Parenthood Federation. We are a network of 40 sexual and reproductive health organizations across North America, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Our Member Associations provide 19.4 million services each year. These range from sexuality education, contraceptive services, and prenatal care to HIV testing, abortion-related care, and screening for gender-based violence. We also act as advocates for sexual and reproductive rights at the local and international levels. Our clients are women, men, and adolescents from diverse economic, cultural, and geographic backgrounds.
