Fighting between the Pakistani military and the Taliban has displaced hundreds of thousands of people, many fleeing their homes in Swat for hastily erected refugee camps.
Aid agencies describe the situation as dire, with overcrowding, lack of proper hygiene and soaring temperatures adding to the misery. But Al Jazeera's Sohail Rahman says the military insists its operation will continue.
