Hillary Clinton, the US secretary of state, is due to meet the ousted Honduran president in Washington, DC, on Tuesday. The planned visit comes after Manuel Zelaya was prevented from landing in the Honduran capital Tegucigalpa on Sunday.
Two people, including a teenager, were shot during protests at the airport, where Zelaya's supporters had gathered.
As Al Jazeera's Cath Turner reports, the mood in the country is calm, but still tense as protesters prepare to bury the dead.
