About 7,000 Haitian women give birth each month. Many of them face life-threatening complications. Even before the January earthquake, Haiti had one of the highest maternal death rates in the world. Lauren Heller of the Women's Refugee Commission describes the urgent need to provide reproductive health services for women in Haiti and other places disrupted by natural disaster and armed conflict.
