Courage Clubs provide a platform to extend the reach and impact of the Sourthern Africa HIV/AIDS Collaboration (SAHAC) video - Courage: Its Your Choice.
Courage Clubs meet weekly and are designed to challenge, mentor, teach, and encourage junior high and high school students to develop sexual attitudes and behaviors that will result in their committing to one another to wait until marriage for sex. The fellowship of students and developing friendships within Courage Clubs gives students the courage to resist peer pressure and develop positive, life-preserving behaviors.
SAHAC is a South African-North American partnership uniting, mobilizing, and equipping existing community resources to cut in half the number of new HIV/AIDS infections within 5 years in participating communities. SAHAC’s aim is to create a youth movement in which youth embrace the only behaviors that eliminate the risk of HIV infection—postponing sex until marriage and keeping sex within marriage thereafter—and urge their friends to do the same. In March 2006, after 18 months of research and planning, SAHAC launched a pilot project in Orlando East, one of the historic Soweto Townships, in Johannesburg, South Africa.
