The Advocacy Project (AP) is a non-profit nongovernmental human rights organization based in Washington, DC, with a field office in Kampala, Uganda. Our mission is to produce social change by helping advocates for marginalized communities become catalysts for social justice and claim their rights. We believe strongly that social change is best achieved by those who are most directly affected. Through AP's fellowship program, graduate students from North America and Europe, known as Peace Fellows, volunteer to work in the field with advocates in about 40 developing countries to strengthen their voices and develop effective advocacy tools.

After four storms in August and September 2008 brought widespread death and destruction to Haiti, the U.S. government suspended Haitian deportations for three months. But expulsions resumed after Dec. 5, sending dozens of Haitians back to their homeland since then. In February, U.S. immigration officials announced that 30,299 Haitians were subject to immediate deportation back to Haiti. Please join us in urging President Obama to Stay deportations to Haiti.

As media consolidation increases, independently distributed films are one of the few outlets remaining for free speech, alternative views and movies with a message. The significance of independently produced and distributed films has grown exponentially as audiences clamor to see feature films and documentaries that introduce new ideas, are socially conscious and that may challenge the status-quo. We realize that there is an audience, both “art-house” and “mainstream,” that refuses to be force-fed Hollywood happy-endings. At Cinema Libre Studio, we believe that movies can make a difference. We strive to be at the forefront of the independent media movement, utilizing the mainstream tools of film distribution, reinventing distribution protocols, combining grassroots outreach with targeted marketing efforts, to produce and distribute feature films, foreign films and documentaries that do make a difference to both art-house, mainstream and home audiences.
