Decades of human rights abuses have established the Burmese dictatorship as a world leader. The demand here is for grassroots reporting that visually reveals what is really going on inside Burma. Burma Matters Now has spent the past five years fielding critical communications and photographic equipment, as well as providing training to various activists and ethnic groups. We continue to train and empower activists and ethnic groups who work to collect video, photos and human rights abuses across Burma. At our field office in Thailand we disseminate the information brought to us by documentation teams; this information is then used to inform, educate and raise awareness across the world and is delivered through multi media channels. “Truth visually revealed, is a force more powerful." Whilst informing and educating the outside world is a focus of our advocacy, we also look to target specific groups inside Burma with information that will help the most vulnerable. The lack of information flow within the country stops people understanding what is really going on, the government’s control of media outlets allows them to regularly mislead the population and further subjugate them.

Creating proactive agents of change with the global consciousness and skills to translate their learning into action -- that is what Thinking Beyond Borders does. TBB students graduate with the capacity to envision a new system of international development that is truly proactive. With 60 years and $3 trillion invested in the current system, the global community has more poverty, environmental destruction, and social oppression than ever before. We offer a powerful 8 month international Gap Year program that allows direct interaction with the communities, cultures, and NGOs around the world working to address the world's problems. The media on this channel was created by TBB students as they lived and studied abroad.

I am a 24 year old woman currently living in California. I have moved 17 times. I feel passionately about the things advocated in this organization. Having been personally faced with some of these issues, or seen them first-hand, I cannot ignore them. I want to get involved as much as possible and help to spread the word about causes worth fighting for. @aerwriter aerwriter@gmail.com
