Participatory Development Initiatives (PDI)

Participatory Development Initiative [PDI] is a not for profit and non-governmental organization. Launched on January 29, 2000 by a group of young community development professionals, human rights activists, trade unionists, researchers, media professionals, political activists and concerned citizens it is registered under Societies Act 1860. PDI is engaged in participatory research, advocacy, campaigning, community awareness, mass mobilization, participatory community development and networking on the local, national as well as global level for the sustainable livelihood of the poor rural and urban communities.
By challenging the unsustainable, anti-masses and anti-poor plans, policies and actions, PDI creates awareness among the communities/ masses, carries out advocacy campaigns, and also suggests pro-people alternative approaches, policies and plans. PDI strongly believes in people- centered and people- oriented development processes with the active involvement and participation of the local communities. PDI works for a gender sensitive/ mainstreamed and basic needs oriented, holistic and integrative development processes with the recognition of the inter-connectedness and interdependence of all the elements of the ecosystem, as to ensure subsistence for all rather than profits for a few.
