On May 23, 2008, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Racism, Mr. Doudou Diene of Senegal, was in Chicago as part of a three-week mission to the U.S. Mr. Diene attended a public hearing where representatives from NGOs and victims provided testimony on racial discrimination practices in the city.

Carol Steele, Co-founder and President of the Coalition to Protect Public Housing, provided testimony on housing.
