The University for Peace Institute consists of three-week short courses that will be given in different areas such as Media and Peace, Leadership, Culture, Politics, Conflict and Peace, War and film, Gender, Environment, Law, Development, among others.
The following is the (non-exhaustive) course listing:
* Hunger, Famine and Food Security
* Peace Operations
* The Anthropology of Violence, Conflict and War
* Entrepreneurship in the Social Sector: Making it Happen
* Film and Conflict
* Dialogue and Reconciliation
* Media Dilemmas for UN Peacekeeping Operations
* Terrorism in the Islamic Context
* Nonprofit Leadership: The Critical Role of Fundraising
All of the courses will be taught by international academicians and professionals with extensive expertise in each of these areas.
The UPEACE Institute presents a great opportunity to engage UPEACE students and professionals with practitioners, academicians and students of peace and conflict from allover the world, in interactive participatory
classes and informal gatherings which will bring several cultures and views together.
Level: professional , post-graduate graduate
Location: San José, Costa Rica
Participants: practitioners, students and academics interested in the fields of environment, peace, conflict, entrepreneurship, terrorism, development, film, violence, and food security. A college degree and other UPEACE admission requirements are needed for those students that wish to obtain credits for their own programmes. For training purposes no college degree is required.
Tuition, fee, lodging: For graduate credits: $2,000. Training purposes or other: $1,200. Special rates are available for students and personnel from Costa Rican universities. Deadline for receiving applications: 30 November 2007.
