International forensics experts and former survivors have launched an investigation into one of East Timor's bloodiest incidents during the fight for independence.

As investigators unearth the remains of protesters allegedly shot and buried by Indonesian troops, many are hoping to see the end of one of the darkest chapters in the country's past.
