Of the thousands of garment factories currently fueling New York City's twenty billion-dollar fashion industry, three-quarters are sweatshops. This WITNESS Rights Alert feature documents the virtual enslavement of individuals, particularly recent immigrants, who work in Manhattan's sweatshops. Sweatshop "employees" recount the abysmal health and safety conditions that they face daily, which often lead to permanent disability, psychological exhaustion and even death. Shot by Greg Shapley and Chris Ho in collaboration with WITNESS, this piece includes music by Peter Gabriel and narration by Susan Sarandon.
