Women human rights defenders are confronted by difficult challenges when they work in male dominated environments and are often stigmatized and sometimes become victims of gender specific violations that need to be addressed. Sunila Abeyesekera of INFORM in Sri Lanka talks about Women Human Rights Defenders Campaign and the need to implement gender specific rather than gender neutral strategies of human rights work.

This interview was conducted in collaboration with the Center for Women’s Global Leadership and their event Human Rights for Women; Human Rights for All. The event, which coincided with the UN's Global Status of Women conference, celebrated the the depth and diversity of the women’s movement and honored the commitment of women’s human rights defenders around the world.
