Pangea Day

Movies can't change the world, but the people who watch them can. On May 10th, 2008 – Pangea Day – millions of people will gather together at the same time to watch stories made by the world for the world. Created by award-winner filmmaker Jehane Noujaim, Pangea Day is the first global campfire, promising to fuel a new wave of cross-cultural understanding and collective social action. A 4-hour live program of films, speakers, and music will be broadcast from cities around the world beginning at 18:00 GMT, and will reach people globally through the Internet, television, digital cinemas, and mobile phones. Watch the Pangea Day trailer then get involved. You'll be in good company. Over a thousand individuals and organizations, in more than 85 countries, have signed up to host events on Pangea Day where people will gather together to watch the live program. We work to advance literature, to defend free expression, and to foster international literary fellowship. In 2004 we established the World Voices Festival, which takes place annually in New York City, as a place to explore and reinforce our core mission through literary conversations, panels, readings, and performances.
