Look around and count ten people – chances are that one of these ten is living with disability, or over 650 million people worldwide. A landmark UN treaty entered into force this month, extending already established human rights to persons with disabilities.

These videos focus on efforts to end segregation and discrimination of persons with disabilities. In Living Proof, the right to live in community is asserted. MDRI’s video from Paraguay played a pivotal role in reforming country's mental health services. In Yemen, children with disabilities write the first child-friendly version of the Convention.

WITNESS Partner: Mental Disability Rights International (MDRI) In September 2004, Mental Disability Rights International (MDRI) captured video footage in a Paraguay’s Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital and collaborated with WITNESS to prepare a follow up video to be screened before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) at the Organization of American States (OAS), exposing the ongoing dehumanizing conditions at the hospital in Paraguay.
